What a choice - pot or email?
A recent UK study (those wild and crazy brits again!) found that email “hurts IQ more than pot.” The study, funded by Hewlett-Packard, found that “the constant interruptions reduce productivity and leave people feeling tired and lethargic.” Well, duh. But, then nobody holds a gun to our head to constantly check emails. We’ve become addicted to being electronically connected all the time in all kinds of ways (c’mon - how many of us really need to be available when we’re at the supermarket?)
Speaks right to one of my soapbox issues that technology should be a tool - and there’s a big difference between effectiveness and crippling dependency.
Of course, all the gadgets are fun (Luddite that I am, I even used my new cell phone to take pics at the Jazz Fest)….but fun isn’t always the same as good. As Grace Slick once noted when talking about getting sober “What people forget is…drugs were FUN!”
