Both fun and educational - The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century by Thomas Friedman, one of my favorite writers. Intelligent, insightful and accessible. He won the National Book Award in 1989 for his From Beirut to Jerusalem (Updated with a New Chapter)
Helped me begin to understand the Middle East.
