Working smart.
As we’re all (I hope) taking some time off this weekend - away from the computers and cell phones - interesting to note that people are finding that working less is often working better. Sleep-deprived, exhausted people don’t do their best thinking. (well, duh!) Over a 100 years ago, Dr. Ernst Abbe did a study of working time at the Zeiss Optical Works in Germany and found that reducing hours by more than 10% actually increased output. Here’s another little factoid - reportedly American workers generate the same output per hour as their French counterparts - whose working year is 20% shorter.
So, if you’re sitting in a National Park reading this via wi-fi, turn off the computer and go play. You’ll work better next week. I’m off to the Rio Grande Nature Conservancy with out-of-town guests. Adios!
