The bad news: You’re in marketing. The ugly news: You’re also in sales.
“Marketing” often has negative vibes for people - “Oh, that ‘fluff stuff’ they do over in the other building. Sniff.” Well, here’s the bad news - if we want to make money, make an impact, make a difference - we’re in marketing. Marketing is a whole lot more than advertising and PR (where a lot of the negatives come from). It’s how you package and position your product as well as how you support and help your customers. Forget brochure writing - think business development. So, we’re marketers - deal with it. (Another thoughtful and thought-provoking post from Creating Passionate Users).
Here’s the worse news - we’re all salespeople. Oh dear - more negatives. But, if you convinced your pre-schooler to wear matching socks this morning - congrats! You sold something. And, when all is said and done - nothing happens until somebody “sells” something - a choice, a product, a military tactic or a political idea.

Hallelujah!!! Someone else recognizes the life of a small biz marketer, salesperson…I mean owner. Sometimes we get so caught up in creating our products or services, that we forget we now need to sell them. Thanks for the reminder. ACG
