Flim-Flam - Snake Oil - Buzz Marketing

“Buzz” is one of the hot marketer topics these days. How do you get people talking about you (and saying the right things?) Is “paid buzzing” a good idea or even ethical? I can’t say it any better than super-sharp marketer Holly Buchanan - so check out her blog post Is Buzz Marketing Illegal? (Yes, she’s talking about the ethics of buzzing in the context of marketing to women…but her points apply to men as well. These days, how much credence does anybody give to a paid spokesperson?)

“How much credence does anybody give to a paid spokesperson?” For me, next to nil. The sway of entertainment is more powerful - such as the PriceLine ads with Williamm Shatner. They are occasionally funny - but the humor is the draw, not Bill. And I stll haven’t every used the service.

I agree. I have tried to use the service, once - for buying airline tickets. But it was totally impractical, given my schedule (three layovers, etc.) I do enjoy watching “Captain Kirk” though - especially when trying on the high heels. So, Priceline has at least achieved “mind share” with me - and tickled my sense of humor so I have some “good” feeling toward them. Will I ever use them? Doubtful. And, so it goes.
