It’s true, I’m an Alien!

alien1
It’s Friday, my synapses are fried and - well - I thought this was a fun photo with which to kick off the weekend edition of Mary’s Blog.

But seriously folks, it’s okay to have some fun here and there, even (especially) in business. Particularly if you want to stand out from the crowd. It’s better to go for one big “OUCH” and quick rejection versus prolonged tap dancing with potential employers or clients. They’re eventually going to meet your “inner alien” anyway, so get it right out there from the beginning - could actually be a deal cincher versus a deal killer.

Of course, posting a goofy photo on your web site or blog may not be appropriate for your market sector, but that doesn’t mean you have to remain one of the herd. Lose the oh-so-safe (and instantly forgettable) marketing speak (Example: “We provide premier consulting solutions to enable our clients to achieve maximized Return On Investment through enhanced quality programs for leading-edge products in the global economy.”) Say what you actually do - how you (a person, not a faceless logo or company), help other people work smarter, make more money, be happier.

The picture is a sure sign that you’re using more of your brain than most. Thanks for sharing it with us on your blog. (And please post something again real soon so only the comforting smile at the top is visible:-))

Amen to that! I’ve often wondered why on earth people use that market speak when a lot of people don’t understand and don’t *care*. I believe a great revolution will happen when marketing folk realise that the world has functioned quite well on simple straight talk.

Your perspective on this is a refreshing one :-)

Ah yes - a wise friend of mine, Roy Williams, always says “criticism makes you cautious”. It takes courage to stand out and be your true, slightly inappropriate, possibly should be committed self.

Showing your true colors can be painful - some people won’t like you. But I gotta tell you - If clients can’t let their hair down and laugh WITH me - I don’t want to work with them. Let someone else work with the tight tushes.

It’s the one thing I say to all the busineses I consult with - Have a personality!! If you don’t have one, for God’s sake get one.

PS - love what the picture does to bring out your eyes - I may suggest this for our next Future Now staff photo session.
