TGIF! Martinis with Mancini

Martinis with ManciniTGIF! Which means, of course, martini time again (and Mancini is some of the best sippin’ music around). So, to end the week, a bit of good news and a pinch of whimsy.

Business: Amongst all the doom and gloom about companies going offshore - Texas Instruments is building a new plant that is touted as being a “state-of-the-art semiconductor factory.” The factory will incorporate various “green building” techniques for greater energy efficiency (and cost savings.)

Oh, and while GM is offering an early buy-out to 14,000 employees, Toyota is creating 5,000 new jobs right here in the U.S. Hmmm. Methinks there’s a lesson in there some place.

Life: Even as polar ice caps are melting, there are some bright spots (and things we can all do). One bit of good news is the number of countries as well as individual U.S. cities and states that have accepted there is a problem - and are working to do something about it. And here’s a bit o’ whimsy to finish up:

Mary’s Martini Recipe:
1. Put (large) martini glass in freezer.
2. Fill shaker with ice and swirl.
3. Pour in Grey Goose or Bombay Blue Sapphire while counting to six (Bartender pro tip - you count versus use a jigger. Do it a few times and you’ll soon get to where you can do perfectly.)
4. Open refrigerator and look fondly at vermouth. Close door firmly.
5. Put shaker in freezer with glass.
6. Go write/publish Friday’s blog post, turn off computer.
7. Put on ‘tooni time CDs - Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Martinis with Mancini
8. Put at least three books by chair (two “good” and one trash.)
9. Pour libation into glass.
10. Add three to four olives.
11. Sit, read, sip, eat olives.
12. Fall asleep on sofa watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s (for the umpteenth time).

  1. Bruce DeBoer Says:

Martini: Choose Stoli Cristall count to 7 but add 1/4 OZ. of vermouth (if you’re going to exclude it, have Cristall on the rocks.) Add 3 olives w/ a teaspoon of olive juice.

Stoli is excellent as well. And, “dirty” ‘toonis are great. However, leaving out the vermouth - while you have a point - it’s all in the perception. A dry Martini sounds so much more civilized than ’straight slug o’ the hard stuff’ ;-)
