Do we still need Google?
Klaus over Concept Bakery provides some excellent critical thinking. He’s moving past his Google dependency (as he points out, there are many ways to find information these days out here in the increasingly connected/social community of blogville.)
Of course, as with anything, it’s not so much a matter of “need” in the marketplace - it’s matter of “want” and - in Google’s case - habit. We’ve very quickly become addicted to Google (I admit, I use it as a reflex when checking out a company, topic or news item.) But, that habit, as with any addiction, has its negatives. Headlines and content get pretty boring, pretty fast if all we do is write for Google juice.
Me? As you might suspect from reading this blog, I’m a bit of a renegade (and, I did - ahem - tag this post Google.) Sure, I write for key words and search engine rankings, but I tend to focus more on writing things I believe my clients and colleagues will find interesting, useful, thought-provoking, and, yes, sometimes just pure mind candy. (Ya gotta have some fun in both work and life, or you’re not going to do anybody much good.)
(Google addict image from Serbian Fighter . If you have nothing else to do today, he’s posted several Google logos, including ones for The Simpsons, Flintstones and Southpark. I really enjoy Google’s little bit o’ whimsy with their logo - the recent daily Olympics logo changes always made me smile.)
Sigh. “Hi, My name is Mary and I’m a Googlocoholic.”

[…] Klaus over at Concept Bakery has been on a roll lately. First he took on Google. Now, he’s doing some more critical thinking (uh-oh!) about myspace. He gives us some excellent food for thought re all things Web, not just myspace. […]
