Mary Schmidt Marketing Troubleshooter

It’s another Fried Friday at the Schmidt house and I’m out of both time and wit (and more than ready for a martini!) Dinner guests are coming this evening and there’s no dinner yet, so I’ve got to dash. Leaving you with a few quick pointers to fun and silly stuff.

Blog Recommendations:

1. I love reading about food. Really good food writing (such as that of M.F.K. Fisher) is about life, not just ingredients. And, I also love history and trivia (I can clear the room in a cocktail party in about five minutes flat. “I was reading somewhere that…”) So, that’s why I was happy to find the Old Foodie blog. Wonderful writing and you’ll learn something! (You too can clear that room!)

2. The Martini Lounge. Three guesses why I love this title. But, no, it’s not about cocktails. The Martini Lounge E-Zine is published each month to question today’s status quo. Our goal is to produce an alternative magazine for women that challenges beauty standards and re-defines the traditional role of women. Sounds heavy, reads well. Mary Bob says check it out.

3. Something totally silly (tip of the blog bowler to the Accidental Hedonist, who in turn got it from egullet) Pimp my snack. The basic premise is take a favorite mass produced snack. Find a way to recreate said snack, but make it bigger, badder, or stronger. Hmmm. Wonder what one could do with Miracle Whip, baloney and some goo-goo clusters? Showing my white trash roots there, ain’t I?

From Andy Borowitz: Elsewhere, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld got a vote of confidence this week from a retired member of the Texas Air National Guard. (I know how serious the subject is, but am I the only one who wants to giggle whenever Rummy says “Henny Penny?” Somehow I can’t see Darth Vader doing that.)
