Those lazy employees

I got this email today (it somehow made it past my spam filters) “Free Special Report on FMLA Intermittent Leave” which opens with this cheery, upbeat paragraph:

Do you feel anxiety over employees who take advantage of your FMLA intermittent leave policy? Most HR executives do. Why? Because qualifying for intermittent leave is a dream come true for malingerers, whose rampant abuse of intermittent leave creates logistical nightmares and costs companies a fortune…Employees know how hard it is for companies to enforce intermittent leave policies. So some of them play the system, taking more leave than they’re entitled to, or taking it at times when you really need them at work.

Yes, indeedy, those lousy employees! They just want money for nothin’ and the check for free.

Here’s the thing. Of course you shouldn’t be a doormat, but if you treat people like adversaries, they’ll act like adversaries. And, if you act like employees are just out to steal from you, they’ll very likely - um - steal from you. At the very least, they’re not going to come to work with a song in their heart and a spring in their step, ready to go that extra mile for you and your customers.

Me? Aside from the fact this email is junk mail, it soured me on ever looking at, much less ordering, any reports (free or otherwise) from Business 21 Publishing.
