Finally! A Friday Post
Yes, yes, I know - all y’all have been feverishly waiting for me to write regular Friday posts again. So, without further ado, here we go ramblin’ all around my fried Friday brain (and, martinis are definitely on the schedule for this evening, sittin’ on my new front porch, watching the Sandias turn glorious technicolor pink.)
First off, a cool quote. The great poet, Maya Angelou once wrote: “When we cast our bread upon the waters, we can presume that someone downstream, whose face we may never see, will benefit from our action, even as we enjoy the gifts sent to us from a donor upstream.†Even a little thing can make my/our/your day - you don’t have to go to a lot of trouble to make a big difference to somebody else.
Under the Heading, “I just can’t make up stuff this bizarre” I thought it must be a joke at first, but no, it’s real. Hollywood is making “Don’t Suicide Bomb” ads for Iraqi television. Yes indeedy, I bet this will end bombing immediately. Just as those “this is your brain on drugs” ads ended teen drug abuse. And, of course, nobody smokes anymore after all those anti-smoking ads.
Well, stop talking about her/it/them already! I’ve been reading and seeing all kinds of noise and righteous indignation about a recently published book and the author. The book is rehashed trash by a bad (and boring) writer (yeah, you know the one, doncha?) Here’s my radical idea - stop giving whatever (a book, a self-anointed expert, assorted loudmouths) any attention! You really can (and should) ignore some things and they’ll be forced to go away.
“Do-Gooder” fund-raiser idea for you. Not to be too much of a Pollyanna, but here’s an idea. For my housewarming party this weekend, I’m asking folks to write a check to Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity for the amount they’d normally spend on the alcohol or gifts they bring to such things. After all, do any of us really need more liquor, soap, or plants?
Why I power walk:“The trouble with jogging is that the ice falls out of your glass.” (Martin Mull)
And, since moving into my new house, I’ve found pulling weeds is ever so much more fun if you reserve one hand for the wine glass
Have a great weekend! If you’ve enjoyed this or any other of my posts, give a little change to: Habitat for Humanity or The Nature Conservancy
