Open Skies, Open Minds
Starbucker started it, with his Crash Davis belief statement (based on Kevin Costner’s dialog from the classic movie, Bull Durham.) Then, Mike joined in.
So, since it’s another Friday when I typically go off the “biz grid” here, thought I’d take a crack at my own.
I believe in open skies and open minds. In laughing when you most want to cry. In giving when one has the least to give. In preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. In fighting for causes even when (particularly) when they’re lost. I believe that business people are people first. That integrity is something we live, not wordsmith. That leaders shouldn’t whine and followers are accountable. I believe there should be a law against reality shows and nobody should ever again utter or write the words, “Paris Hilton,” unless they’re referring to the hotel. I believe that good people do bad things for the right reasons and bad people will surprise you. I believe that this heart beat right now is the only sure thing and that every day should be lived as a good day to die.
Here’s another great quote from the movie “The world is made for people who aren’t cursed with self-awareness.” - Annie
(Yep, and unfortunately, way too many of those people end up in positions of leadership. Let’s all work to change that, shall we?)
Hmmm…I might just have to watch Bull Durham for - like - the 189th time this weekend. Who knows? After a second martini, I might figure out how to breath out of my eyeballs (You gotta watch the movie to get that one.) And, you can read the original belief statement on the Wiki link I just gave you.
All y’all have a great weekend now, ya hear?

Bravo Mary! Can I steal that last line sometime? I’m surprised you didn’t sneak that martini in there somewhere. Your point-of-view is right up my alley (as well as our mutual appreciation of Bull Durham!) , so keep sharing it in this inspiring way. All the best!

Well, the martini is a given, isn’t it?
I do try to limit the ‘tooni references - otherwise, people will think I’m a lush (and it’s a big night when I have a second drink…)

Wow Mary! This is gold! I agree with SB that the last line is fantastic (each line is) - though here’s the keeper for me: ” That integrity is something we live, not wordsmith” Amen!

Thanks, but I stole the basic line from somewhere - A Native American war chief may have originally said it (that rings a bell with me) Or, I could just have internalized Robbie Robertson’s “It is a Good Day to Die”
But, it does really come down to - each of us will eventually come to the day we will die, so we should live accordingly.
