Friday Fantasies & Follies

It’s been an incredibly busy week and I’m headed out for meetings - so this will be a quick post with some serious (non-biz) points - I can’t be silly every Friday (However, I remain resolute in my irreverence.)

Ann RichardsGood-bye, Madam President! I was deeply saddened to read of Ann Richard’s death. The former governor of Texas, she called ‘em as she saw ‘em - and she would have made a helluva president (indulge me in a small fantasy re President Richards - I’m suffering from Bush Administration Outrage Fatigue.) Here’s the NYT obit.

CEOs turning green?

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 6, 2006 - Nearly two in three Chief Executive Officers of American small and medium-sized businesses expressed concern about the prospects of global warming, according to the latest Vistage Confidence Index, a quarterly measure of economic, market and industry trends.

Of course, talking is one thing; doing quite another. But, at least they’re thinking about global heating. It won’t do us much good to have businesses if we’re all under water (and we can’t breath methane.)

Oh Goody! Another CE0 Book. Is it just me? Do you also long for the days when every CEO on the planet didn’t feel compelled to share their wisdom? I admit, I’ll probably check out Ms. Fiorina’s “tell all” book since I think she got a bum (albeit, incredibly lucrative) deal at HP, but…I’ll do it at the library and with a quick browse.

A “Hmmmm…” quote for you: “A great many people think they are thinking when they are really rearranging their prejudices.” - William James

“Gee, ya think?” quote of the week: “One of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror.” - President Bush

Have a great weekend! Turn off the computer, grab the dog/kids/significant other/golf clubs/picnic basket…whatever…and GO OUTSIDE! It’s a beautiful planet and it ain’t gonna last forever.
