TGIF Martini Musings
It’s TGIF time and I’m going off the biz grid early today - due to a deep-fried brain and home improvement errands to run.
The good news for us Sci-Fi geeks is that the new season Battlestar Galactica premieres tonight. Seems they’re going to do a take on the Iraqi war. However, in this case, the Cylons (the bad guys) are the invaders. Should be veddy interesting (And, I think it’s a safe bet these soldiers have sufficient body armor.)
On to some silly and not-so-silly stuff for martini musings this evening.
Doncha just hate when that happens! The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. - Terry Pratchett
I feel safer already! FBI Joins Hunt for E-Coli Yes, it’s a bad, sad thing, but really, aren’t we getting just a tad hysterical? Terrorist Spinach?
This from Andy Borowitz:
Poll: In Match-up Between Hillary and Kerry, Most Democrats Would Choose Suicide
A new survey of Democratic voters indicates that in a hypothetical match-up between Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and former presidential nominee John Kerry, most Democrats would choose suicide over either candidate…
The poll, conducted by the University of Minnesota’s Opinion Research Institute, shows Mr. Kerry drawing 21%, Sen. Clinton 18%, and various forms of suicide 61%…“Throwing yourself in front of a speeding city bus†was the most popular means of suicide at 22%, with “jumping off the roof of a really tall building or bridge†coming in second at 17%.
Me? I’m thinkin’ a big pitcher of ‘toonis and sleeping pills…Or, mebbe a write-in vote for one of the Roosevelts, Ike, Matt Santos, Arnold Vinick or Andrew Shepard. (Yes, all of these are either dead or fictional, but…sigh)
Oh, C’mon People! The Foley Feeding Frenzy: His problem isn’t alcohol, sexual orientation, or evil Democrats. Foley is a predatory jackass without the sense God gave a goose. And, it’d be a really refreshing change if the GOP would act like responsible adults. Why is the automatic response attacking the Democrats? The Demos actions/reactions doesn’t change what Foley did or what the House Leadership didn’t do. Geez, guys, you’re supposed to be the “Daddy” party - act like a good one! Think more Ward Cleaver, less Homer Simpson.
That’s all folks - have a great weekend!

So, how was Battlestar Galactica!?
I was experiencing the joys of flying United through Chicago, so I missed the season premier.

BG was outstanding. Grim, dark, depressing - and riveting. Another example of how good “Sci Fi” speaks to universals. The “science” is just a vehicle with with to move the story. I’d submit that all those folks who sniff, “I can’t get into that Sci-Fi stuff” need to check out BG (and also some other late, lamented “silly” shows such as Buffy and Angel.)
