“I have enough friends. Sniff”
A seemingly successful attorney once said this to me, in reference to networking. I just smiled and drank my cocktail. But, I’m thinkin’ Whoaaaa! You can never have enough friends. You don’t have to hang with them 24/7, but you never know where help and business will come from. And, the more people we know, the more we learn and grow. Sure, I don’t do many of the “flat rubber chicken” canned networking events either - but I do my best to call, have lunch, grab a cup of joe with old, new and potential friends on a regular basis. And, my blogging has led to many wonderful new relationships and business. “Smart Networking” has enriched my life immeasurably, in experience and - increasingly - in dollars. And, smart marketing is all about smart networking. (People buy from people, not logos.)
All of which is my long-winded way of introducing an excellent post “Woo Your Crew” which has a great list for easy reference. Snaps to Phil for bringing it to my attention.
Bottom Line: Take the time for the people in your life. And, that includes your customers/clients, vendors, next door neighbor, the supermarket check-out clerk. What goes around comes around - and being thoughtful doesn’t have to take more than a second of recognition and eye contact.
If a cynical ol’ loner like me can think like this - you can!

Mary:
You are so right.
To parpahrase a quote I read some time ago — can’t remember who said it — “the true measure of a gentleman (or lady) is how he (or she) treats those who can do absolutley nothing for him (or her).
In other words, the people who take time for the check out clerk, the doorman, the parking lot attendant, the hotel housekeeper and the restaurant server etc. are the ones who make this world a kinder, gentler place. And we all can use all of the kindness and gentleness we can get in today’s crazy world.

Thanks, Phil - but don’t get too carried away - you could get arrested!
And, the old maxim, “You see the same people on the way down as you see on the way up” is worth noting - even if you don’t really care about the other people. Should be remembered that you ( your boss, your company, your nation, your political party) may not always be the one in power.

Yep, I probably won’t be in control of the world long. Dang, that sure was a short ride. I guess my time is up now.
