The Dark Side of Blogging
Just a quick heads-up for my friends in blogville. Last night I received a email from a woman calling me to task over one of my posts (which I did way back in September, ancient times in blogging.) And, also last night I got two threatening and very obscene voice mails. (Hmmm, coincidence???) I don’t take kindly to being called the “c” and “b” word. (I think “Nazi” was in there somewhere too, but the woman was pretty incoherent. Drinkin’ and Dialin’ perhaps?) Nor do I appreciate being told “I’m going to get you!”
I believe I know the person doing this, and have advised her via email to cease and desist. And, I’m notifying other bloggers this woman may be contacting as well as the police.
So, does getting a death/violence threat make me an A-lister? Gee, I feel so special! Sad, very sad.
(Oh, and – really – have a good weekend, I plan to do so.)

Mary – How weird and creepy. Even if you know who the dialer is, and you believe they’re harmless, it’s still unsettling. Please don’t let this repress the “you” that comes through so well in your blog! (Not that I imagine for one moment that it would.)
Anyway, your friends in the blogosphere will be thinking of you. (Unfortunately, this is a cirumstance in which the virtual community doesn’t quite have the power of the concrete in-person world. If we were all in an office together, we could have your back.)

Maureen,
Thanks! i’ve already got a reply from the owner of the site about which I wrote – and she apparently had/has no idea what is going on. Wasn’t even aware I’d written about her site.
And, no, “you” won’t change. I don’t get scared – at worse I get mad. I chased a guy down the stairs and down the street after he kicked in my front door in broad daylight one time. Then I drove the streets looking for him. Ah-yahhh….Even the police were laughing! Breaking in on crazy people is scary!
Mary – some how your story of chasing the guy down the street doesn’t surprise me. I’ve been reading your words long enough to “know” you mean business!
Still not fun to have a slice of what celebrity brings to others be thrown at you.
Have a great weekend — and stay crazy!
Mike
Thanks Mike. As another blogger commented off-blog to me, “Luckily for her stupidity isn’t painful.”
And, hey, if I’m gonna be a celebrity does this mean I have to hang with Paris Hilton? (ack ack) Oh, Nooooooooo!
You are one strong person Mary. Good for you for sharing this, and for doing something about it. Stay strong, and let us know if we can help you!
Thanks, Phil.
I’ve not heard another peep from the woman after I emailed her. Most likely – after she sobered up – she realized just how stupid she was being.
