Lists You Can Really Use (Now)

Viral NetworkWell! Mike Wagner really started something with his smart “five thin-slice” meme - it’s gone viral! Great common sense, thought-provoking (and short!) lists are popping up all over blogville. (My post re strategic planning is here.)

Here’s a round-up (from Mike and those I tagged for the meme):

Mike’s list: Thin-slicing goes viral. The list includes Mike Sansone’s take on blogs. If you’re still thinking about blogging, Mike II is a great place to start! (C’mon in, really. The water is fine.)

Bruce Fryer took up my challenge on product development. Great point re things will go wrong. When they do, be gracious.

Francois wrote about marketing plans. I particularly enjoy his point about the ubiquitous “leader” positioning. A company claims to be a leader, even if they’re in a category of one. (Yes, and I’m the best singer in my shower on any given day.) I would love to see just one company say, “Hey, we’re not a “leader” or “major global innovator servicing the Fortune 500.” In fact, we’re way down in the pack, but we’ve got a great product, backed by good, smart people and we won’t gouge you like the big guys.”

Dawn Rivers Baker, brave soul, took on small/micro business and public policy activism (or the lack thereof).

As more people get tagged, more lists will appear. So, stay tuned! And, feel free to add your five things on your blog or in the comments below.

Hi Mary, great to see what Bruce and Francois posted.

I’ve been trying to catch up with all that is being posted. Helpful to see how this idea is spreading along with the learning eacy post offers.

    Keep creating,
    Mike

As I mentioned on my blog, it is National Delurking Week. I simply wanted to take this opportunity to make sure you know that I read and very much appreciate your blog. I look forward to more in 2007. Thanks, Mary.

    Stephanie,

Thanks for “de-lurking” And what a great idea - wish I’d known about it sooner, I would have promoted it.

    Hi Mary…
This “viral” thing sure beats the one that cruised around my house the past few weeks. I’m loving the insights, and loved the comment about “Delurking” from Stephanie… great term for sure.

I also think that just stepping up and fully committing to what you do, who you are and who you hang out with, has some real power. Being a leader doesn’t necessarily mean that you service the mighty ones. You’ll often find one in the little pre-school down the street in the form of a passionate 21 year old.

    Cheers Mary!
    Kyle
