Psssst. Want Me to Buy Something?

Memo to women’s magazines and companies marketing to women: I’m an adult woman. I like men.

Why don’t more ads targeting women realize many of us – um – really like men – especially competent grown-ups with a bit of a twinkle in their eye, like the new 007. I also love seeing real women in ads (Di Modolo, Dove) – with a few wrinkles, maybe a couple of extra pounds and looking good (and happy). I can relate.

Clearly, they need to make more use of female photographers. ;)

  2. Mary – Absolutely! Not just the new 007, but the old one (Pierce Brosnan). One of the reasons I can’t stand fashion magazines – other than the fact that at this point in my life I’m dressing more and more like Bea Arthur in Maude – is because the ads contain all these too skinny, too young, too bored and jaded looking, too overly made up models (of both sexes) that I can’t even bear to look at the ads. As you say, give me a nice looking guy with at least a little bit of age and wit on him – or the Dove women, or Jamie Lee Curtis sans make-up.

I’ve always liked Brosnan (not so much as 007 as those movies got too silly even for me – which is saying something). I like him even better now that he’s doing more character roles and is a bit paunchy. Still very attractive, but real (and that twinkly lop-sided smile! Oh yeah!)

And, you may be Bea Arthur (LOL) – but I’m turning into the stereotypical little old lady in tennis shoes. It’s a big day when I dress in something that buttons and zips! ;-)
