Martini Musing: Is This the Hill You Want to Die On?
Here’s a quick one for you to read with that first cold one of the day. Happy Friday!

When I get into full rant mode (who me?) a good friend (and fellow “take-no-prisoners” Aries) sometimes stops me and asks, “Now, Mary. Is this the hill you want to die on?”
The answer is usually, “Uh, (heh) no.” Once I take a breath and actually think, what’s ticking me off isn’t all that important (if at all) in the larger scheme of things. There are far bigger battles to be fought. Global Warming Heating. Genocide. Poverty. Homelessness. Education. Health Care. Business Integrity. Political Reform…Making a real difference.
Here’s how I determine the hill:
1. Am I in a frothing frenzy because it really matters? Or because somebody has poked me in my grand Aries pomposity? So, they don’t think I’m totally ab fab and brilliant. Get over it, self. (Dave Rogers, here’s looking at you, kid!)
2. Can I make any real difference if I continue on my current path? Or, am I just running amok with the (virtual) Uzi and hurting the very cause I want to help?
3. Do I want to be right? Or do I want to do the right thing? Sometimes, that means shutting up and sitting down. Leave the field and fight another day.

With a tip of the blog bowler to Janet, the fellow Aries. All y’all - have a great weekend. (I’ll be snowshoeing tomorrow in the gorgeous foothills of New Mexico.)
(The above image is of the death of General Warren at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Which wasn’t much of a hill. But, it was a very important battle.)
