Martini Musing - I Love Dead Trees!

Yes, liberal progressive tree-hugger that I am…

I love blogging - it’s been great for me and my business. But, the “big media” has been having conniptions about bloggers (and also web sites). Many write blogging is a fad, that there is no substitute for “real” journalism, etc. etc. etc. Oh please. Catch up, people. There’s TONS of opportunity for everyone to play in today’s always on, always connected world. New audiences, new technologies, new connections.

And, I don’t think dead trees will ever go out of fashion. (Even Captain Picard had old books he cherished.)

I can’t sit under the backyard apple tree and read my computer. (Yeah, I know - PDAs, notebooks…bla-blahh…it just ain’t the same and it’s uncomfortable and unfun to lay on my back and read a screen.)

I can’t feel the pages of an electronic book.

I can’t read the sidebar scribbles of a previous reader in the margins of a web page. On-line comments don’t come close to the spidery fading handwriting from - say - 1908.

I can’t spread out the electronic Sunday Times all over my den floor.

So, this evening, I’ll be pouring the Friday ‘tooni and relaxing with a big pile of magazines and cookbooks.

Have a great weekend!

If you’d like to leave a comment, please do so. It may take a bit to show up since I hate making people type in little letters (I can’t read most of them myself) - so I moderate all comments. Feel free to disagree - debate is healthy. However, I’ve blacklisted the worst obscenities, including the “f” word, as part of the troll wall.
