Brace Yourself! New Logo Ahead!

New Mexico Business Weekly Headline: Santa Fe Seeks New Logo for Birthday.

When I saw this, I immediately thought, based on past history in New Mexico re marketing, advertising and such, that:

1. After much ka-do ka-ka about RFPs - the deal will go to a big out-of-state agency.
2. The logo will cost a ton of money.
3. It may well have Saguaro cacti in it. (They’re not native to New Mexico. But, to the big city Madison Avenue fellers, “What’s the diff?”)
4. Even worse, aliens may be involved.

Then, I was very pleasantly surprised to read the article. It’s actually a contest (details and downloadable pdf form) with $2000 going to the winner. With the many great creative people all over the state, I’ve got high hopes we’ll see something really different for “the city different”…and some well-deserving artist will get some much-needed cash.

London 2012 LogoToo bad London didn’t think of this for the 2012 Olympics.
