Chrysler’s New CEO - You Decide

NYT: Ex-Home Depot Chief Taking Reins at Chrysler
Feel free to make up your own caption. (That’s LaSorda at the left, who is being demoted. What a happy team.)
And, for the “Why Bother?” file
“We are excited to welcome Bob to the Chrysler family,” said LaSorda in a statement. “Bob has a proven track record of success and an unwavering focus on performance, and brings deep operational experience and a broad industry background to Chrysler. His background in operations will provide valuable knowledge as we continue Chrysler’s turnaround.”
“I am very excited to be part of a team focused on re-establishing Chrysler as a standalone industry leader, with a renewed focus on meeting the needs of customers,” said Nardelli
Just think, somebody actually got paid to write that!

Mary - I was shocked when I read that Nardelli was the Chrysler CEO. It wasn’t just the compensation issue (which was huge). It was also his horrible display at a Home Depot board meeting. How can someone that shows no respect for dissent manage a huge turnaround?

“Nardelli did not allow shareholders to ask general questions, ending the meeting, which was broadcast on the Internet, after a mere 30 minutes. He also did not respond directly to any of those investors who were allowed to address him about the proposals.”

Ann,
And the really startling thing is the culture he created for his employees. If comments (and emails and phone calls) I’ve gotten following my posts on Home Depot are any indication, the man doesn’t have clue one how to treat the rank and file (and he so loves the whole military thang. Of course, he never actually served in the military so that could be part of the problem. He’s all about the talk and knows nothing about the walk.) This is the guy they picked for the “new team?” Ah-yah. Oh, and, but of course, they’re continuing to lay people off, including 13,000 jobs in New Jersey. Frankly, I’m not sure the guy is even worth that dollar.
