Martini Musing - Friday’s Five Things
Here’s my perspective: Life is what we make of it - and, for most of us, happiness is a choice. But if all we read, hear, write and kvetch about are the godawful things in the world - it’s hard to make that choice.
So, just for today
1. Don’t read your RSS feeds. (Stop, stop right now!)
2. Don’t watch the news.
3. Don’t read any political blogs (or newspapers or news sites.)
4. Don’t complain about lousy service. Smile, say thank you and fugeddabout it! You might be surly too if you had to wear a little paper hat and clean out deep fat fryers for a whopping $7.10 an hour.
5. Don’t use the words “can’t” “but” and - um - “don’t.”
DO sit down with pencil and paper (no keyboarding or thumbing) and list five things that are right with your world. Here are my five things for this Friday:
1. A meteor passed over Albuquerque. (Whew!)
2. It’s a gorgeous day in the neighborhood. No video screen required to enjoy it.
3. The Albuquerque library is having a book sale this weekend. Out-of-print cookbooks here I come!
4. I finished a major client project this week. (You try getting your entire marketer brain on a single piece of paper. Hah! Of course, some days that’s ridiculously easy for me - just leave the paper blank…)
5. January 20, 2009 will be here before we know it. Time flies, whether you’re having fun or not.
And, my perpertual #6 (It’s my blog. I can break the “five things rule.”) - I live in New Mexico. Surly people in paper hats, forest fires, drunk drivers, nuclear waste, drought and all - it’s still a magical place. (The above photo is of a pretty typical sunset.)
If a cynical old snarkster like me can do this, so can you. Have a great weekend! Now, I’ve got to go work on my list of three things.

1) I have a steady stream of work and still get to walk 4 or 5 miles with my husband 5 days a week.
2) I just finished a major house project! I “de-emo’d” my daughter’s room and repainted it for my sons - it’s done - trim and all!
3) I have the best puppies in the whole world.
4) I have tons of friends and acquaintances that make me smile, make me think, and challenge me to do my best.
5) I’m with you on 5!
Have a great weekend, Mary!!!

Ah, puppies! They should always be on the list.
And there are my fierce attack cats (aka, love lumps…)
Oops, I’m talking about my cats. Back to “bidness” now.
