“New” Viral Marketing - Some Perspective

“…they circulated quickly; he had made copies and sent them to friends; who recopied them and sent them on. Soon, he had the uneasy surprise of receiving them back from South Germany printed.

Man, doncha you just hate when your ideas, emails and blog posts get passed around outta your control?

Well, I’m sure the guy above would have felt the same way - if he’d been using a computer. The quote is about Martin Luther and his 95 propositions in 1517. (From Dawn to Decadence: 500 Years of Western Cultural Life 1500 to the Presentby Jacques Barzun). Mr. Barzun also points out that, “The printing press by ltself was not enough; better paper, modified ink, and a body of experienced craftsmen were also needed to make type a power.”

Hmmmm…and then there’s that challenge of having a compelling, well-written message…
