Focus On The Problem Not The Person

As we all dive into another week…something to keep mind:

We all get frustrated sometimes – if there is more than one person in the room, there’s gonna be politikin’, personal agendas, and sometimes conflict – no matter how good or smart the people. When you’ve got to work with weasels the conflict factor increases exponentially (You know – the people who are so unhappy with themselves or their jobs, they take out that misery on everyone else. And, some people are – let’s face it – just not-real-bright jerks.)

Here’s the advice I give myself and my clients: Focus on the problem that needs to be solved (product development, customer service, finances, etc.) NOT your own feelings about being dissed. When faced with petty and infantile behavior – you act like the rational grown-up…smile, be firm, be polite, stay focused and move right along.

Then at the end of the day, you can pour a huge ice-cold vodka and whine to the cat.
Works for me. ;-)
