Martini Musing – What Went Right This Year?

Sun in handsAs I’ve written before, the world has always been a mess (and unfair, oh woe is me, unfair!) We’ve always been one madman, meteor or disease away from apocalypse. There have been bad biz deals and surly customers since Oog traded Moog a bag of yummy berries for a lousy sharpened stick that broke first time Oog used it. (At least Oog didn’t have to deal with Moog’s interactive customer service phone system…)

And so it goes. However, we have a choice. We can whine, kvetch, blame others…moan that it’s all hopeless. Or, we can focus on what is right with this world…and what is right with our lives and business. (And keep working to fix all the wrongs in the world. Sometimes a hopeless cause is the one most worth fighting for…at least we tried.)

So, in getting ready for 2008, I’m reviewing everything that went right for me in 2007 and building from there. Review your 2007 and I bet you’ll be amazed at how much you accomplished.

For some added perspective, read Seth Godin’s post Just Two Years Left, in which he revisits a post from four years ago that’s still timely. Here’s a snippet:

Here’s a question that you should clip out and tape to your bathroom mirror. It might save you some angst 15 years from now. The question is, What did you do back when interest rates were at their lowest in 50 years, crime was close to zero, great employees were looking for good jobs, computers made product development and marketing easier than ever, and there was almost no competition for good news about great ideas?

Hmmm….

Happy New Year!
