Our Web “Permanent Record”

stored recordsWhat did happen to my school “permanent record” anyway? And then there were those “black marks” at good ol’ AGD sorority…

I admit, I snickered when I read this headline: Online Reputation Management. Seems the “cool” Web kids are now paying people to clean up their stuff on the Web.

Yeah, you’re gonna have “bad stuff” out there - but trying to hide it can make it even worse (and more visible, thanks to the way search technology works.) And, the absolutely worst thing you can do is ignore it.

Better to focus on generating good news, good products, good service, a good rep. If you did something stupid, own it and move on.

If you find my permanent record, lemme know… ;-)

There are two approaches here. I know a guy who is so paranoid he is completely off the Google grid. So nothing bad there. The second approach is if you did something not so good, do many good things and the old history rolls right off the page.

    Bruce,

He just thinks he’s “off the grid.” Unless he lives in a cave, always pay cash, never emails, never pays taxes, has never been married, doesn’t have a birth certificate, doesn’t have a social security number, didn’t go to school, has never voted, has never contributed to a campaign, has never held a job…well, he’s not off the grid.
