Want Business? Feed ‘Em (The Good Stuff)

Party Invitation“Everyone” likes free food. However, you can’t simply throw wienies on the grill in the parking lot. If the only reason the hordes are descending is mass quantities of mystery meat, you’re not going to sell much.

If you plan a social event, with invitations, great food, and entertainment…and don’t try to sell anything…you’ll make a big impression.

Last Friday, AIBA (Albuquerque Independent Business Alliance) had our annual spring party, ‘Burque Blooming. One of our members, Just Sprinklers, hosted it. But, John, the owner, didn’t just throw open his doors and dump soft drinks in a cooier. He spent big bucks on a variety of food from local restaurants, had a live band…and was very smart to have his grand opening along with the AIBA party.

Here’s why:

1. Great Visibility. John got a lot of free PR from our ‘Burque Blooming invitations and promos. In fact, the event is still listed on our web site, since I’ve not had a chance to update it this week.

2. Great Right Now, Real People Testimonials. We asked our AIBA sponsors to say a few words. Two of them, Dr. Elizabeth Garcia and Fred Mondragon, the Secretary of the NM State Economic Development Dept. are happy Just Sprinkler customers. Both gave impromptu testimonials. Instant credibility from very different “demographics” - young professional woman and distinguished middle-aged man.

3. Walking The Talk. John knows how important it is to support his fellow indies. So, he had catering from at least four different local restaurants, and really good wine from a local winery, Casa Rondena. Mondo good will all around!

John didn’t try to “sell”…and I saw a lot of people asking about his services…and several were buying gardening products right then.

So, throw a well-planned party - great for your existing customers and new ones!
