Martini Musing – Small Acts of Kindness
It’s another Fried Friday – and I’m having one of my Pollyanna days. The New Mexico weather is glorious; it was a good, if hectic, week; and my book club is meeting tonight (vino will be involved) to talk about what we’re reading.
Of course, I’m always reading and looking for new ideas – online, offline, standing in line…The other day I saw a list (somewhere) of “Small Acts of Kindness.” The first one really grabbed me. “Be Friendly.”
Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Costs nothing, takes no more time. And, it makes you feel good.
So, in addition to “be friendly” here’s my personal Acts of Kindness list.
Don’t say what I’m thinking. Is it really necessary for me to point out the other person is mistaken or to present my oh-so-important view? Let it go.
Don’t correct a friend in conversation. So, maybe what she’s saying never happened. Or, she got the word wrong. So? Let it go.
Know when to shut up. Am I really going to change somebody’s mind – or am I simply making her or him feel badly? Let it go.
Recognize that the other person may simply be having a bad day. Don’t make it worse. Let it go.
Don’t go into control freak mode over little things. I don’t have to be right all the time. Let it go.
If you’ve got any additions to this list – please leave below. Small acts add up to big goodness.

Hey, I like Pollyanna! I think I took her to Prom my Sr. year. Grin.
Keeping with a two word exhortation model, mine would be “show interest”.
It’s simple really. Ask a question or two about someone and be prepared to listen.
Everyone has a story they could tell if only someone cared to hear it.
Keep creating…a day worth remembering,
Mike
Tell people when they have made a difference for you. So thank you, Mary, for keeping my spirits up these last few months while I look for a job.
