Nibbled To Death By Ducks

DuckThis is shaping up to be one of those ducky weeks. Every time I turn around, a duck is lurking. I’m a big fan of perfection, but sometimes “good enough” is really good enough. And, you can work something to death.

“The logo needs to be a shade darker.” Is anybody going to notice? Like, your customers?

“Move the photo over 1/8 of an inch.” See above. And, are making these changes going to blow your deadline (and cost you designer fees?)

“The software doesn’t have X features.” Is this the developer’s need or the customers? (I once worked with a group of Japanese engineers who were very proud of the “125 features” of a phone system. This when the customer wanted…five…)

“We need everyone’s input before we can plan.” There’s a difference between input and impediment. And, what if those people haven’t a clue what you’re talking about in the first place?

Quack, quack, quack…
