Learning (and Teaching) On The Web
On Saturday, my friend Mary Ellen Merrigan and I did a brief seminar re the changing Web world for a group of New Mexico educators. A couple of the teachers were even from Hobbs, my hometown! (And, several also noted our error using “is” instead of “are” on the evaluation form. Oops. Didn’t catch that one when I was revising the form…;-)
As always, I ended up learning from the audience. That’s why I love giving presentations - new ideas and different perspectives. While they’re still trying to catch up re some of the “new” stuff like YouTube and blogging - everyone in the group uses the Internet on a regular basis. One grade school teacher said they use their web site so the kids can go online and do their assignments. Another said her granddaughter was very excited about doing work…during the summer…thanks to the Web interaction. The online aspect makes learning more fun for the girl and her friends.
And so it goes. A lot of people wonder if the Web is making us “stoopid.” But, it’s like anything else - it’s how you use it.
