“I’ve got it here somewhere.”

piles of papersRecently my frequent collaborator Mary Ellen Merrigan called to get my bio for a presentation we were doing. Um, yeah..I’ve got about a dozen of those, all tailored for the purpose and audience…but where did I put the one re “social media?” Hmmm…

Here’s the thing - with all the super tech tools we’ve got, it’s easy to get lazy about the basics. I like to keep things simple but I’ve grown overly dependent on my iMac’s search capabilities (not to mention grabber and drag and drop.) It really is all here “somewhere.” But, sometimes it’s not all that easy to find the “somewhere.” Especially when I can’t remember what I called the file in the first place.

Now, I’m actually pretty well organized, but I’ve gotten lazy. So, I’m busily organizing my virtual files just as I would the old-fashioned file cabinet. I now - ta-da! - have a file folder labeled bios and I’ve implemented a standard naming convention (duh.)

Technology is great - but it’s a tool, and it’s only as good as the user. I can use spell-check, but there’s no such thing as “stupid-check”…;-)
