Martini Musing – Go For A Swing

Girl on a swingI don’t know about you but I’m very glad we’ve arrived at Friday once again. It’s been a busy week for me, but relatively stress-free. One reason for that is I took time out.

On Monday, faced with a long list of “must-dos” I took a long walk. And, on that walk I stopped at the local school playground…and spent 10 minutes on the “big kids” swing. Simply swinging, breathing, and enjoying the day. I recommend it if you’ve got a playground in the area (and a high embarrassment threshold…;-). I also recommend that – if you’re not prone to motion sickness – you close your eyes, clear the mind, and simply enjoy the sensation.

Great way to start off the week. (Come to think of it – a great way to also end the week. But, before ‘toonis, of course.)

Doing something – anything – different can be a great energy producer. And, you don’t have to spend big bucks on coaches, equipment, or self-help books to…simply go for a swing.

One of the great pluses of getting a dog is exactly this. No matter how tired I am or how much I could just crash on the couch after a long day, there are those puppy eyes and wagging tail saying, “I missed you! Let’s go for a walk!” And so I do, and also get to see neighbors, see my neighborhood at human (rather than automobile) level, and so on. It really is great. Even when it’s cold out!

Same thing in the mornings – before work, there I am on the deserted basketball court with my dog at the park up the street, playing “follow the leader” (good training practice to keep him paying attention to me even when squirrels and birds are around), running in random directions around the court with the dog next to me. Great way to begin the day, instead of heading straight to the car and work.

Ah, there’s nothing happier than a happy dog, is there? I can’t help but smile when I see my friend’s little dog’s face “HEY! HOW ARE YA! LOVE YA! HAPPY DAYS!!

(I also make time to play with my cats – but, shhh…I’m not supposed to write about my cats on a biz blog…;-)

There ARE medical studies that show people who have pets live longer, get sick less and are happier.
