Small Biz Excuse #252: “But I’m Just Local!”

…for not having a good, up-to-date web site…or doing anything with things like “search engine optimization.”

Google is now more helpful than ever…even if you don’t do a local search, you get local results: Google Changes The Local Game (Again). …”there are a variety of terms (like “restaurants” or “plumbers” or “doctors”) that will produce a Google Maps/Local result even if you don’t include a city name or other geographical term in your query.”

I’ve have been relying on this for a while now. Phone book? What’s a phone book? Plumbers. Landscapers. Doctors. You name it. All a Google away.

P.S. No, I’m NOT telling you that you need to pay someone a bazillion bucks for SEO. But, you do need to educate yourself at least a bit about what it is, and how to do it.

Hat tip to Bryan Eisenberg (blog, Grokdotcom.com) for pointing me to this post about Google at Small Business Search Marketing. Love their tag line: “Because not everyone can throw thousands of dollars at the ‘how to market ourselves online?’ question…” You should add both of these blogs to your “education” reading list.
